About the Artwork
Before the three fin thruster became the standard for modern surfboards, the single fin defined an era of surfing. Double Single Fins pays tribute to that legacy by celebrating two classic surfboards whose distinctive fins represent a time when style, flow, and graceful lines were valued as much as speed and performance.
Set against layered bands of color inspired by the changing skies of Southern California, the artwork recalls the quiet anticipation of dawn patrol, when two surfers head toward the water before sunrise in search of the day's first waves. The composition transforms these iconic boards into bold contemporary forms, highlighting the timeless beauty of surfboard design while honoring the craftsmanship that helped shape California's surfing culture.
Rather than depicting the surfers themselves, Double Single Fins allows the boards to tell the story. Their intersecting forms suggest friendship, shared experiences, and the unspoken bond between surfers preparing to paddle out together. The result is both a celebration of surfing history and a contemporary tribute to the rhythm, tradition, and enduring spirit of coastal life.
