Turquoise Community: Protect captures a moment of strength, awareness, and self-preservation through bold gesture and stance. A single figure stands in motion, embodying readiness and intention, suggesting both personal defense and inner confidence.

As part of the Turquoise Community series, this work explores how protection begins with awareness and identity. As a Deaf artist, I express this through visual language—using gesture, contrast, and composition to communicate meaning without sound. The figure’s posture reflects a state of alertness, where understanding and presence become the foundation of strength.

The composition shifts from a structured gray background into defined fields of color, creating a movement from control to expression. Purple suggests loyalty, while black and white elements provide grounding and clarity. These layers work together to emphasize balance between awareness and action.

The turquoise gloves serve as a defining symbol within the series, representing protection, knowledge, and the safeguarding of identity and language. They reinforce the idea that strength comes from understanding oneself and maintaining connection to a larger community.
