Cultural Connection explores the act of communication as a bridge between individuals, communities, and lived experiences. The composition centers on two figures engaged in sign language—one fully visible within the frame, while the other extends from beyond its edge—symbolizing connection that reaches beyond physical boundaries.
This visual interaction reflects how language, particularly ASL, creates space for understanding across cultures and perspectives. The gesture itself becomes the focal point, emphasizing connection not as a fixed moment, but as an ongoing exchange.
In the background, horizontal bands of color introduce rhythm and continuity. These stripes function as a visual language of their own—representing the ongoing flow of communication, cultural exchange, and shared experience. Their repetition reinforces the idea that connection is sustained through time, not confined to a single interaction.
As a Deaf artist, I approach this work through visual language—using alignment, movement, and spatial relationships to guide perception. The composition invites viewers to consider how connection is formed, extended, and maintained across different worlds.
Printed on aluminum, the surface enhances clarity, contrast, and color saturation, giving the work a crisp and contemporary presence.
This one-of-a-kind original artwork has been collected and is now part of a private collection. It will not be reproduced in this format.
