Deaf Key II explores the evolution of language, identity, and movement through a structured yet dynamic composition. A circular form contains the work, representing continuity without end—an ongoing cycle of growth and transformation.

The composition transitions from black and white into color, where the grayscale reflects the past and the color spectrum represents the present and future. Horizontal stripes extend across both sections but do not align, emphasizing how language and culture evolve over time rather than remain fixed.

A bold diagonal key cuts through the composition, shifting from a static symbol into motion. Often understood as a tool that opens a door, the key also represents what is essential—what is “key” to understanding and progress. Here, it becomes both access and importance, linking foundation to forward movement.

The “D” represents Deaf identity, while the “8” symbolizes infinity—suggesting continuity without end. Together, they form a visual root that anchors the work in both identity and ongoing evolution. From this foundation, “ASL” extends outward as a wing, lifting the composition forward with energy and direction.

The circular form reinforces the idea of a nonstoppable cycle, while the upward movement of the key evokes propulsion—where access becomes momentum and identity continues to expand.
