Wild Palm Trees reflects a spontaneous connection to place—capturing a familiar roadside scene transformed through memory and emotion.
Inspired by moments of passing palm trees while driving, the composition carries a sense of movement and energy. The trees rise with a loose, expressive presence, shaped by both observation and imagination. What began as a simple, joyful thought—“why not paint them?”—evolves into a study of rhythm, repetition, and environment.
The work balances two states of time: the quiet anticipation of dawn and the reflective close of dusk. This duality introduces a subtle tension between beginning and ending, motion and pause, suggesting that each moment holds its own opportunity to move forward.
As a Deaf artist, I approach this work through visual language—using color, flow, and composition to express sensation beyond sound. The movement of the trees and the surrounding atmosphere guide the viewer through an experience shaped by memory and visual rhythm.
The wood panel introduces warmth and texture, grounding the composition while enhancing the layered color and organic energy of the scene.
