ART OF EVERYDAY 2026 WINNER: ASL Abstract

Jon Savage Art of Everyday 2026 Winner - ASL Abstract immersive video installation

I am honored to share that ASL Abstract has been selected as the 2026 winner of The Art of Everyday by Vanguard Culture.

This 28-minute immersive video installation explores American Sign Language as a living visual language. The work centers ASL not as translation, but as embodied expression and contemporary art.

Out of more than 100 submissions across disciplines, the piece was recognized for expanding how we understand communication within everyday life. I am especially grateful to jurors Guusje Sanders (Curator at Mingei International Museum) and Claudia James Bartlett (Director of Photo L.A.) for their thoughtful engagement with the work.

Thank you for supporting Jon Savage Gallery and the continued evolution of this work.
